Storyline
What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim is a romantic comedy-drama series starring Park Min-young playing Kim Mi-so or Secretary Kim and Park Seo-Joon as Lee Young-Joon as the main leads. It is based on a 2013 novel of the same title written by Jung Kyung-Yoon. The popularity of the novel has led to a webtoon comic series released on Kakao Page. In 2018, TVN produced the 16-part series running from June 6 to July 26 of the same year.
Narcissistic Vice Chairman
Lee Young-Joon is the narcissistic Vice-chairman of the Yumyung Group. He is self-absorbed but is brilliant and astute in business. He has a quick-witted personality and often makes sound decisions when it comes to business.
When it comes to other things and his personal life, he seems to be clueless. He has a habit of always looking at himself in the mirror and admiring what he sees there. Young Joon suffered PTSD in his childhood because of an incident that happened to him.
The Ever Reliable Secretary
Kim Mi-so, the namesake of the drama, Secretary Kim is a very efficient and reliable assistant to the Vice Chairman of Yumyung Group. She has held her position for nine years and has learned everything almost from scratch. Kim Mi-so is the perfect secretary who can anticipate what her boss needs even before he knows it himself.
Mi-so is the youngest among her siblings but she has helped her family during times of trouble many times. She is also a good daughter and sister. When she finally finished paying debts that their family had and they are finally settled, she decided that she wanted to take a break from working nonstop. She hands in her resignation and that is when things get very interesting.
Familiarity Breeds Feelings
When Mi-so suddenly handed in her resignation, Young-Joon at first just took it for granted. He never entertained the thought that she is really serious about it. As days neared the date indicated in the letter, Young-Joon suddenly became aware that he had developed feelings for Mi-so without him realizing it. He became jealous of other men getting close to Mi-so. She on the other hand was not playing games. She has made up her mind that she wanted a break and was firm with her decision.
Young-Joon became desperate and because of his desperation, he proposed marriage. The desperate move slowly developed into a realization that they both had feelings for each other that both cannot deny.
Binge Star Rating – 8.5 Stars
What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim is a feel-good and giddy drama. Park Seo-Joon and Park Min-Young had wonderful chemistry. The way they interact with each other on screen is so believable that you would really enjoy watching their scenes together. The storyline is a dime a dozen. An extremely rich and handsome CEO executive who owns the company falls in love with his unassuming perfect and beautiful secretary. It’s as cheesy as they come. But if you love romantic comedies and are in the mood to watch something moderately gripping then this series is for you.
Re-watch Value
I have watched What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim probably at least three times. It is engaging enough when I am in a dry spell of new dramas and cannot decide what I am going to watch next. You can watch all sixteen episodes in one weekend if you have no plans of going out. Perfect to binge in one go.
