Song Hye-Kyo on Spotlight

Song Hye-Kyo is undoubtedly one of the most popular South Korean actresses of all time. She has consistently graced the list of the most influential and powerful South Korean actresses. Having countless successes in her dramas throughout the years has earned her the Hallyu star status that only a few have been entitled to have.

She started out when she was fourteen years old with a small role in a television drama called First Love. Hye-Kyo continued to accept projects for television and commercials. But it was her role in the KBS drama Autumn in my Heart aired back in September of 2000 that she started becoming popular. She played the lead role of Choi Eun-Suh alongside Song Seung-Heon and Won Bin.

STORYLINE

The story is a case of switched identities. A toddler Yoon Joon-Suh accidentally switches the name card of her sister, Yoon Eun-Suh with another baby, Choi Shin-ae. Joon-Suh and Eun-Suh grow up as brothers and sisters. Eun-Suh is a popular girl in school and is the envy of her classmates, especially Shin-ae. Her parents find out that she is not their biological child when she gets into an accident and is in need of a blood transfusion. As it turns out, Shin-ae and Eun-Suh were accidentally switched at birth.

They go back to their biological families. Shin-ae moves in with the Yoon family, and Eun-Suh moves in with her mother, Mrs. Choi. Eun-Suh’s biological father has died due to a blood disease. Her mother operates a small restaurant and is living in poverty. On the other hand, the Yoon family moves to the United States together with Shin-ae.

After ten years of losing touch, Joon-Suh comes back to South Korea as a successful artist. Eun-Suh and Joon-Suh meet again and realize that they have feelings for each other. The problem is that, aside from their families being against their relationship, Eun-Suh has inherited her biological father’s disease that cost him his life.

STORYLINE

Han Ji-Eun (Song Hye-Kyo) is a trusting and optimistic girl who aspires to become a writer. She got tricked by her friends into thinking that she won a free vacation so they can sell her house when she leaves. Lee Young-Jae (Rain) is a famous actor who has a big ego and is hard to deal with. He wants to make his crush jealous so that she will realize that she likes him too. They meet on a plane and get acquainted while on vacation.

When they get back from their trip, Han Ji-Eun finds out that her friends had sold her house to Lee Young-Jae. They had no choice but to live together. As they learn about each other’s life issues, Ji-Eun decides to help Young-Jae make his crush jealous by entering into a contract marriage with him. Trouble ensues when they both start to have feelings for each other.

STORYLINE

Both leads, Oh Soo and Oh Young do not believe in true love. Oh Soo grew up as an orphan. He became a gambler and a con man who pretty much doesn’t care about how he lives his life. He lives on the edge and has gained a lot of enemies in his chosen professional addiction. His grief comes from the pain of losing his first love causing him to behave the way he did.

Oh Young is a rich heiress who has a suspicious demeanor because she is blind. People have often deceived her thinking that she doesn’t understand what is happening around her because she could not see.

Oh Soo and Oh Young meet by accident and Oh Soo ends up pretending to be Oh Young’s brother. Two broken people in the midst of a pretense slowly find their way to learning about the true meaning of love.

STORYLINE

Descendants of the Sun is probably one of the most successful yet most controversial drama series of Song Hye-Kyo. She plays the lead character Doctor Kang Mo-Yeon opposite her real-life husband (now ex-husband) Song Joong-ki as Captain Yoo Si-jin. They meet in an unlikely circumstance and are instantly attracted to each other. They decide to date officially but with their very busy schedules, they barely have time to spend together. Their lifestyles are too different so they decide to break up.

After eight months, they meet again when they both get assigned a government assignment on an island where Mo-Yeon serves as one of the doctors on duty in a special mission. Si-jin on the other hand is part of the military troop assigned for the operation. Being trapped in a situation where they often interact with each other has rekindled the feelings that they both still had. The question is, would their love win this time around?

STORYLINE

Cha Soo-Hyun is the divorced daughter of a politician while Kim Jin-hyuk is a regular guy who takes great pleasure in living his life free of any worries. They meet by chance on a trip to Cuba. Jin-hyuk was on a vacation before starting work at a big company while Soo-Hyun was there on a business trip. Soo-Hyun and Jin-hyuk spend some time together on the trip. Soo-Hyun is drawn to Jin-hyuk’s carefree attitude while Jin-hyuk was attracted to Soo-Hyun’s sometimes aloof and rigid character.

When they come back home to South Korea, Jin-hyuk finds out that the hotel where he will be working full time was owned by the woman he met briefly on his trip to Cuba. Soo-Hyun was equally surprised by their current situation. They are clearly attracted to each other but their difference in stature and the opposing reaction of people around them pose a serious threat to what could be the start of a beautiful relationship.
